Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Lavrottes" 2022 Gilbert et Christine Felettig
Tasting
Color
Although the 2022 vintage itself has not been described in detail on this point, Les Lavrottes typically shows a deep ruby robe with violet highlights, a color consistent with well-ripened pinot noir grapes handled with measured extraction.
Nose
The nose opens on dark cherry and cranberry, interlaced with a touch of gingerbread spice. Notes of rose petal and red fruit add a floral, delicate dimension, echoing the classic aromatic signature of Chambolle-Musigny.
Palate
Medium to full-bodied, the palate is vivid and pure, with a soft, almost playful entry that gives way to good vigor and a sense of fresh, sorbet-like fruit. The texture is succulent and suave, carried by fine, well-integrated tannins, before unfolding into a long, spiced finish.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs beautifully with braised veal shank, a truffle risotto, or a pumpkin velouté topped with crispy bacon chips. More broadly, it suits refined dishes built around delicate meats, mushrooms, or root vegetables, where its silky texture and spiced, floral character can shine.
Serving and cellaring
Given its vibrant, expressive character, the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Lavrottes" 2022 benefits from a short decanting to fully reveal its aromatic range. Its structure, supported by a significant proportion of new oak, points toward genuine cellaring potential, making it a wine that can be enjoyed both in its youth and after further time in bottle.
A Finely Etched Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru from Domaine Felettig
The Estate
Founded in 1974 in Chambolle-Musigny, in the heart of Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, the domaine Gilbert et Christine Felettig grew out of a small family vineyard first tended by Henri Felettig in 1965. Christine and Gilbert, the second generation, expanded the property to roughly 11.5 hectares spread across Chambolle-Musigny, Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges, and the Hautes Côtes, split among about a hundred parcels. Organic farming, practiced since 2013, was officially certified starting with the 2024 vintage. Today the estate is led by Gilbert Felettig alongside his daughter Pauline, following Christine's retirement in early 2026.
The Vineyard
The Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Lavrottes" comes from a tiny 0.38-hectare parcel located in the northern part of the Chambolle-Musigny appellation, just below the Bonnes-Mares grand cru and alongside the Les Baudes premier cru. The soil is predominantly limestone, topped with a layer of cherty limestone, and average yields are kept around 40 hectoliters per hectare. The 2022 vintage comes from the estate's youngest vines, around 25 years old, grown on a site known for combining the finesse typical of Chambolle-Musigny with a more structured, powerful character.
Winemaking and aging
The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Lavrottes" is produced from grapes picked on the estate's youngest vines, roughly 25 years old, with around 50% whole-cluster fermentation. The fruit is sorted both in the vineyard and at the winery before a cool pre-fermentation maceration using indigenous yeasts. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with careful, measured extraction. The wine is then aged by gravity in selected oak barrels, roughly half of them new, for an extended period, without any filtration, a practice the estate has followed for its premier crus since 1999.
Grape Variety
100% pinot noir.
