Description
A powerful and fruity red wine by Domaine Faiveley
The estate
Located at the heart of the Burgundy wine region, Domaine Faiveley has been run by the eponymous family for seven generations. Pierre Faiveley founded the estate in 1825 while he was still a shoemaker, working this job alongside being a wine merchant until the end of the 1840s. He spent the last decade of his life entirely devoted to the estate, transmitting his passion and respect for the terroirs to each of his descendants.
Today, the estate is run by Erwan and Eve Faiveley, who wholeheartedly bring together a willingness to produce great wines with a know-how that has been passed on from generation to generation for almost two centuries.
The vineyard
Domaine Faiveley covers 120 hectares’ worth of vineyards, making it one of the largest in Burgundy. La Framboisiere, in particular, covers 11 hectares and has been an emblematic monopoly vintage of the Domaine since 1933 – hence "Monopole" in the wine’s name.
The wine
The Mercurey Village "La Framboisiere" Monopole 2018 by Domaine Faiveley is derived from an east-facing plot. The vines are planted on shallow clay-limestone soils.
The vintage
2018 was an early vintage thanks to favorable conditions. A particularly wet winter allowed for the vines to accumulate water reserves before a mild spring and a hot and dry summer. Harvests began on 27 August for the Mercurey wines in the Cote Chalonnaise and ended on 15 September. The vines were in an excellent state of health and the grapes were perfectly ripe.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes are manually harvested and sorted. Pump-overs twice a day. Vatting for 15 to 19 days, followed by gravity-fed devatting. Aging lasts for 13 to 14 months in French oak barrels (20% new) in the estate's cellars at consistent temperatures.
Blend
The Mercurey Village "La Framboisiere" Monopole 2018 by Domaine Faiveley is a 100% Pinot Noir wine.
