Description
A Food-Friendly David Duband Pinot Noir from Burgundy
David Duband took over his father's 37-acre vineyard, planted in the cool, western slopes of Burgundy's Hautes-Côtes de Nuits in 1991, determined to start producing his very own wines and gradually expand the estate. Today, the talented winemaker produces organic wines from 42 acres, divided between a stunning 23 appellations, cultivated organically and certified by Ecocert. The David Duband Bourgogne Hautes-Cotes de Nuits Louis Auguste 2017 is a 100% Pinot Noir red Burgundy wine produced from vines aged 50 years on average, and planted on a south-facing vineyard of limestone and marl soils. The fruit is harvested manually and vinified with roughly 40% whole clusters, undergoing a long, gradual period of maceration lasting 17 days. The wine is then aged for 14 months in oak barrels, of which around 30% is new oak and the rest oak with 1, 2 or 3 previous wines. The Bourgogne Hautes-Cotes de Nuits Louis Auguste 2017 by David Duband is neither fined nor filtered before bottling. The David Duband Bourgogne Hautes-Cotes de Nuits Louis Auguste 2017 displays a bright ruby red color in the glass, with some darker reflections. On the nose, this Burgundy red wine expresses black and red fruit aromas, along with touches of spice and undergrowth. A frank and straight-forward entrance in the mouth is followed by a generous palate, with flavors consistent with the nose, offering touches of licorice and a slightly spicy finish. A sunny and hot 2017 vintage resulted in a beautiful, terroir-driven wine in this David Duband classic. An excellent food pairing wine, which will go nicely with roasted vegetables or a mushroom omelet.
