Description

A fine red wine from Haut-Medoc by Sociando-Mallet

The estate
Overlooking the Gironde estuary for almost 3 centuries, Chateau Sociando-Mallet is one of the most respected properties in Haut-Medoc. Owned by Sieur Sociando in the 17th century, the Mallet family added their name after their acquisition of the estate in the 19th century. Since 1969, the Gautreau family has endowed this iconic property of Haut-Medoc with their passion and energy.

The vineyard
At the top of the hill of Baleyron, in the commune of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, the 77 hectares of vineyard are planted in a soil of gravel and clay upon a clay-limestone subsoil. The vines are cultivated in a traditional way.

The winemaking
Manual harvest from September 18 to October 11 in crates. Sorting on the table. Traditional vinification in cement and thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks. 25 days fermentation. Malolactic fermentation in tanks.

The aging
90% in new French oak barrels. Aging for 12 months.

The blend
Merlot (85%), cabernet sauvignon (43%), cabernet franc (2%).
