A structured, aromatic red wine from Haut-Médoc by Sociando-Mallet

The estate

Overlooking the Gironde estuary for nearly three centuries, Château Sociando-Mallet is one of the most highly regarded estates in Haut-Médoc. Owned by Sieur Sociando in the 17th century, the Mallet family added its name after acquiring the estate in the 19th century. Since 1969, the Gautreau family has poured its passion and energy into this emblematic Left Bank Bordeaux property.

The vineyard

At the top of the Baleyron hill, in the village of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, the 77-hectare vineyard is planted on a gravel-and-clay terroir over a clay-limestone subsoil. The vines, averaging 35 years of age, are traditionally farmed.

Winemaking and aging

Hand-harvested grapes followed by sorting on a table. Traditional vinification in temperature-controlled cement and stainless-steel vats, with pump-overs and rack-and-return. A 25-day maceration. Malolactic fermentation in vats. This Haut-Médoc wine is aged for 12 months in barrels, 90% of which are new.

Blend

Sociando-Mallet 2020 is a blend of merlot (53%), cabernet sauvignon (46%), cabernet franc (1%).
