Description
The delicacy and aromatic richness of a Sauternes wine
The estate
A First Classified Growth of Sauternes in 1855, Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey is one of the most prestigious names in the iconic sweet wine appellation located south of the Bordeaux region.
The vineyard
Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey has an exceptional terroir with a 30 hectare vineyard exclusively dedicated to the production of this First Classified Growth of Sauternes.
The vintage
A particularly rainy winter preceded a very mild spring, resulting in strong mildew pressure. Thanks to the dry and warm conditions of mid-May, flowering took place quite early and was uniform across the estate. From June 19, the precipitation gave way to dry and cool weather until mid-July, which marked the beginning of veraison. Strong peaks of heat were recorded until mid-August, when some thunderstorms allowed for the ripening of the grapes to continue. The rainy days in the second half of September favored the establishment of Botrytis. The grapes harvested were concentrated, with satisfactory sugar levels, guaranteeing a high-quality 2020 vintage.
Vinification and aging
Vatting for 10 to 15 days in French oak barrels of 225 liters. Aging lasted 10 months in 1/3 new oak barrels of 225 liters, followed by 8 months of aging in stainless steel vats.
The blend
The Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey 2020 was made from a blend of Semillon (88%) and Sauvignon Blanc (12%).
