Description
The elegance of a Sauternes Premier Grand Cru Classe
The estate
An 1855 Sauternes Premier Grand Cru Classe, Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey is one of the most prestigious names in the iconic sweet wine appellation located in the south of the Bordeaux region.
The vineyard
Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey boasts an exceptional 36-hectare terroir within the Sauternes appellation.
The vintage
In Sauternes, September 2018 was marked by a major drought that was not conducive to the development of the famous Botrytis Cinerea, a sine qua non for the production of Sauternes wines. Fortunately, the alternation between cool nights and sunny days at the end of September triggered the first outbreaks of noble rot. Harvested in three selections, the botrytised grapes were picked between September 25th and October 29th. This extended harvest window required a very precise selection of grapes and the rigour of Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey’s teams enabled the production of limited but extremely high-quality lots (production of 7hl/ha).
The blend
Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey 2018 comprises a blend of Semillon (95%) and Sauvignon Blanc (5%).
The tasting
Nose
The 2018 vintage of this fine Sauternes wine is characterized by a rich and very typical aromatic profile: roasted fruit, candied orange peel, apricot, apple compote... the gourmet flavors are not overpowering even if the acidity level is lower than in the 2017 vintage.
Palate
Delicious and precise, the mouth seduces with its balance and aromatic richness. A very successful expression of the vintage.
