Description

The power and elegance of a radiant Bordeaux red wine

The estate

With a vineyard whose quality of land for vine cultivation was recognized in local archives as early as 1461, the Château Haut-Bailly benefits from a prestigious heritage. Having achieved the title of Cru Classé des Graves in 1953, Château Haut-Bailly saw a new chapter in its history written following its purchase by Robert G. Wilmers in 1998. A passionate lover of Bordeaux and its wines, this great patron and lover of French culture worked alongside his wife to perpetuate the historical heritage of Château Haut-Bailly while bringing a modern and innovative perspective to elevate the cru to the highest level until his death in December 2017. The General Manager of the estate, Véronique Sanders, along with the technical director Gabriel Vialard, manage with talent and passion this emblematic Cru Classé located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation.

The vineyard

Located at the top of a Graves ridge, this Pessac-Léognan vineyard overlooks 30 hectares of vines spread over gravel, clay, and sand soils. The gentle slopes of the ridge promote excellent soil drainage.

The vintage

Particularly cold, the month of April was marked by a frost episode slightly impacting the lower plots of the estate. The flowering was disrupted by a rainy May, resulting in the development of shatter, millerandage, high mildew pressure, and therefore a reduction in yield. Beautiful and dry, the month of July allowed to stop the development of diseases, to aerate the bunches to avoid the risk of botrytis. The month of August alternates more or less favorable weather conditions, causing a late veraison. The exceptional conditions of September and October ensure perfect maturity. The harvest is the longest and latest of the last 10 years.

Blend

Cabernet sauvignon (70%) and merlot (30%).
