A great year for Bordeaux, 2018 marks the 207th vintage of the Despagne family at Grand Corbin, situated on a magnificent terroir north of the Saint-Emilion appellation.
A Grand Grand Cru Classe of Saint-Emilion, Chateau Grand Corbin-Despagne oversees an exceptional vineyard spread over 28.79 hectares of vines. The soils are agilo-sandy with iron grime and ancient sands on clay. The vineyard and the wine are certified organic since 2013.
The Grand Vin of the estate, the Chateau Grand Corbin-Despagne 2018 blends Merlot (75%), with Cabernet Franc (24%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (1%). The wine is aged in new oak barrels (50%), barrels of one previous wine (40%) and barrels of two previous wines (10%).
A blend of 75% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Grand Corbin-Despagne is deep garnet-purple colored and features baked black cherries, mulberries and plum preserves with touches of rose hips, Marmite toast and fallen leaves. Full-bodied, rich and decadent in the mouth, the voluptuous fruit is well framed by firm, rounded tannins and great freshness, finishing long.
