Perhaps the most elegant vintage of Clos de Sarpe, the wine is powerful, tannic, fresh and stony. The fruit is clean and fresh, but the tannins are there, letting you know this requires more time than most wines from the often forward 2009 vintage.

Still showing beautifully, the 2009 Château Clos De Sarpe offers a rich, powerful, full-bodied style as well as lots of classic Saint-Emilion chocolatey dark fruits, bouquet garni, tobacco, earth, and scorched earth. This rich, sexy 2009 has ripe, sweet tannins, a layered, expansive mouthfeel, no hard edges, and a great finish. These wines have serious longevity, and this 2009 can be drunk any time over the coming 30–40 years.

Le Figaro Vin

A dense, supple, charming, suave wine with good structure.

Description

Chateau Clos de Sarpe vineyard lies on homogeneous soils. The vines grow on a clay-limestone single-slope located on a steep hillside facing south-east. The 2009 vintage exhibits all the traits of Saint-Emilion superior wines: strong, fresh, and smooth. Chateau Clos de Sarpe 2009 requires several years to develop into a truly generous bottle.
