Description
A Magnificent, Limited Edition Jeroboam Bottle by the House of Louis Roederer
The property
Founded in 1776 in Reims, Louis Roederer is a Champagne House that has managed to remain family-owned and independent. After more than 200 years of existence, the House of Louis Roederer is still in the hands of the same family. Now led by Frédéric Rouzaud, who represents the seventh generation of the line, Louis Roederer embodies the excellence of Champagne around the world through cuvées crafted like works of art.
The vineyard
With nearly 241 hectares of vines, the House of Louis Roederer derives its strength from its extraordinary vineyard, made up solely of Grands and Premiers Crus in the Vallée de la Marne, the Montagne de Reims and the Cote des Blancs. A veritable mosaic of terroirs, the Maison Louis Roederer vineyard is divided into 410 plots, reflecting the great diversity of Champagne's soils.
The wine
The iconic cuvée of the house, created for the first time in 1876 for the Tsar of Russia, Cristal is made from 45 exceptional plots, spread over the greatest Grands Crus of the Montagne de Reims, the Vallee de la Marne and the Côte des Blancs. Only two times, for vintages 2002 and 2015, have grapes from all plots usually reserved for Cristal been used to blend a Cristal. 1/3 of the grapes used in the development of this exceptional cuvée come from La Riviere, 1/3 from La Montagne and 1/3 from La Cote. The 2002 was simply extraordinary, meeting all of the criteria for a great vintage of Champagne. The temperatures were quite warm year-round, without excessive heat or sun. The winter was especially mild and less rainfall allowed the grapes to achieve the perfect concentration in time for their harvest.
The bottle
The Cristal Orfevre 2002 is a true masterpiece in the form of a very rare, limited edition Jeroboam bottle, housing 3 liters of the Louis Roederer prestige cuvee. Inspired by the tradition of fine jewellery making, this medallion bottle is dressed in a graceful open latticework crafted from brass plated in 24-carat gold. Each bottle is 100% handcrafted by 2 fully dedicated master goldsmiths who work tirelessly for 4 days to achieve this vertiable technical feat.
The vinification and aging
20% of the vinification is carried out in oak. The dosage of this Cristal 2002 by Louis Roederer is 10g / liter.
The blend
The Louis Roederer Cristal 2013 blends 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay.
The tasting
Color
The champagne has a bright gold color, adorned with subtle reflections.
Nose
During the tasting, the Louis Roederer Cristal 2002 unveils a bouquet of a great richness, revealing gradually the intensity of its aromas. Fresh flowery notes, mingling with lightly toasted nuts, cacao and candied citrus fruits, aromas that show the sophistication of this particularly refined cuvée.
Palate
On the palate, Cristal 2002 is smooth and generous, caressing the palate with its unctuous texture. This champagne reveals flavors of ripe fruits, along with caramel, viennoiserie and white chocolate. The whole is completed by freshness and a pleasant bitterness, giving to the wine an exquisite crunchy sensation.
