The estate
Since 1843, the House of Champagne Krug has paid tribute to the dream of its founder, Joseph Krug, by creating each year a new Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, the most generous expression of Champagne, regardless of annual climatic variations.
The House believes that each Krug Vintage expresses the unique character of a particular year. A Krug Vintage brings together the most expressive wines from the same year, enhanced by more than ten years’ aging in the cellars. Every Krug Vintage is different: it is the Music of the year, translated into the Krug universe.
The vineyard
With more than 250 different parcels, including the prestigious Clos du Mesnil and Clos d’Ambonnay, the House of Krug holds an exceptional heritage of vineyards in Champagne.
The cuvée
Krug Grande Cuvée was born from the dream of one man, Joseph Krug, who wished to offer the best possible champagne every year, regardless of the vagaries of the weather. By respecting the individuality of each parcel and building an extensive library of reserve wines, Joseph Krug was able to make his dream a reality. With a different approach to creating Champagne, he chose to go beyond the notion of vintage to craft each year the most generous expression of Champagne: Krug Grande Cuvée.
Each year, the House of Krug thus honors the dream of its founder with a new Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, the most generous expression of Champagne: a blend of more than 120 wines from 10 different years, made from 3 grape varieties, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier.
Blending wines from so many different years gives Krug Grande Cuvée its uniquely generous array of flavors and aromas, impossible to express with wines from a single year. Each glass is the fruit of more than 20 years of patience and savoir-faire.
Like all Krug Champagnes, its aging potential is outstanding. Each Edition is unique and tells its own story thanks to the Krug iD, the six digits found on the back label of every bottle of Champagne Krug. It can be used to organize your own bottle collection and enjoy it at a later date.
