Fynbos is an old-vine Chenin Blanc from Mooiplaas Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa. In Afrikaans, “Mooiplaas” means “beautiful place.” The estate is both a vineyard and a private nature reserve, with over five hundred acres of land. Dedicated to the preservation of the Cape Floral Kingdom, the land is home to hundreds of birds, plants, and other native wildlife. The wine is named for the indigenous Fynbos bush growing wild on their property.
Winemaker Louis Roos says, “We see ourselves as custodians of the land. We have to look after that land for the future generations.” The Fynbos Chenin Blanc is a vegan-friendly wine fermented spontaneously with wild yeast. The wine ages on lees in stainless steel tanks for 3 months.
Refined and fresh, Fynbos goes with lighter fare such as fish and salads, as well as spicy and grilled cuisine. Tropical aromas of quince, lychee, mango and summer melon. On the palate, both lush and mineral-driven.
