Description
A fruity and mineral white wine from Sancerre
The estate
The Lucien Crochet estate is the fruit of the fusion between the domaines of Lucien Picard, a pioneering winegrower in the Sancerre wine region, and Andre Crochet. United by Lucien Crochet, the son of Andre, who had married Lucien Picard’s daughter, the estate gradually expanded over a thirty-year period. Today, the estate is headed by Gilles Crochet, the son of Lucien Crochet, and his wife, Laurence.
The vineyard
The Lucien Crochet estate covers 35 hectares of vines, 26 of which are dedicated to meticulous white wine production, of which Sauvignon Blanc is the only grape variety. Aged by 25 years on average, the vines are located at between 240 and 280 meters of altitude on east, south and west-facing slopes. The vines are planted on calcareous clay rock upon Kimmeridigan or Oxfordian subsoil. The vineyard is operated through sustainable viticulture.
The vintage
2018 was, overall, a exceptional solar vintage which benefited the grapes’ ripening process. A rainy spring, which brought about mildew pressure in June, preceded a dry, sometimes scorching summer. Nevertheless, the berries harvested in September were in a perfect state of health.
Winemaking and aging
Manual harvests in mid- to late September. Vinification with selected yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Late racking. Aging lasts for around 12 months in thermoregulated stainless steel barrels and tuns.
Blend
La Croix du Roy 2018 by Lucien Crochet is a 100% Sauvignon Blanc wine.
Tasting

Nose
A real assortment of fruits are exuded on the nose. Tangy notes of citrus and grapefruit can be discerned on the first nose, followed by sweeter fruits (pear, peach).
Palate
On the palate, this wine is brilliantly mineral and relatively light, with a perfect amount of acidity.
Food and wine pairings
This wine will go perfectly with seafood, spicy food or even goat’s cheese.
