Wine Spectator

Bruce Sanderson

Pure and bursting with energy and tension, this red’s cherry, blackberry, floral and mineral flavors are locked tight today. Nonetheless, this offers terrific balance and intensity, with just a hint of oak spice. The long, resonant aftertaste is driven by vibrant acidity. Shows excellent potential. Best from 2029 through 2047. 200 cases imported.

Decanter

Jadot's Clos des Ursules was a bit of a disappointment in 2022 – it seems to lack some of the ripeness it enjoyed in 2020. There is appropriate raspberry fruit and complexity from hints of violets, eucalyptus, and earth, but none of the heady complexity and fruit of the 2020 vintage. The wine has abundant extract on the palate, giving it complexity and depth. I suggest waiting at least five years to see if this opens up.

A big, rounded and generous wine that wraps fine-grained tannins around gorgeous red and black fruit on a full body. Clos des Ursules is a monopole of Jadot’s and one of the vineyards they have used for generations. Opens with spicy cinnamon, cloves and toast, then vivid raspberries, red plums and mint on the palate. Drink or hold.

Monopole. Cask sample. Mid crimson. Very attractive hint of violets on the nose. Already pretty charming with its floral fruit and fine, well-managed tannins. One of the more obviously sweet wines. (JR)
