Decanter

Lovely aromatic profile, delicate and softly perfumed with violets. A gorgeous rush of creamy red fruits on the palate – cranberry, redcurrant, red cherry – with touches of blackcurrant leaf. The texture is smooth but dense yet flowing, giving flavour and restraint. You can taste the creamy chalkiness here with wet-stone nuances really reflecting the terroir, with a spicy kick and a cooling mint finish. The taste goes on and on. It’s more delicate, less in-your-face than No.3 and Tempo, softer but still driven and purposeful nonetheless. The first vintage of Carillon from both dedicated vines and its own cellar facilities.

Redcurrant, sweet-tobacco, bark and earth aromas follow through to a full body with a creamy texture of crushed stone and pure fruit at the end. It’s tight and pure with beautiful finesse and mouth-feel. 90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc. Second wine of Angelus. Try after 2026.

90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. Includes the unclassified parcels of Angélus as well as those in St-Christophe-des-Bardes and in proximity to Figeac. First vintage from the new cellar in St-Magne-de-Castillon. Barrel sample. Seems to have stepped up a gear this year in terms of purity and precision. Dark fruit, spice and liquorice aroma and flavour but with a freshness that gives lift. Good depth of fruit, smooth texture and fine, long tannins. All with a restraining hand. (JL)

The 2019 Le Carillon d'Angélus has turned out beautifully. Succulent and racy to the core, with gorgeous understated balance, the 2019 is impeccable from start to finish. Dark red fruit, chocolate, new leather and spice are nicely pushed forward. The 60% new oak is a bit prominent at this stage. It will be interesting to see how that plays out over time.

Fresh, vibrant, soft, silky and, frankly, already just delicious to taste, the wine effortlessly delivers its plummy, licorice, floral and chocolate-covered cherry character. Medium-bodied, ripe, pure and polished, you can enjoy this on release while waiting for its big sister to age and develop. Drink from 2022–2033.

Ratcheting up the quality significantly, the 2019 Le Carillon D'Angélus (90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc) reveals a dense purple/plum color to go with classic notes of blackcurrants, black cherries, tobacco leaf, damp earth, and spring flowers. Beautifully balanced and elegant on the palate, it has medium- to full-bodied richness, present yet polished, elegant tannins, and a great finish. It's approachable today yet will be even better with 2–3 years of bottle age and has 15+ years of overall longevity.

90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 60% new barriques. Dense purple with ruby highlights. Complex bouquet of red cherries, heather and lingonberry juice, backed by light noble wood and Dominican tobacco. Very seductive, even invigorating. Firm on the palate with a supportive tannic framework, ripe extract; the noticeable vibrancy gives the wine plenty of elegance and flair. Focused finish with crushed black berries, hints of graphite and juniper. For me, on the same level as the magnificent 2016!

Silky, fruity bouquet with blackberry jelly, chocolate, light tobacco, strawberries. Balanced, medium-bodied palate with fine, intense fruit, dense structure, powerful, sweet aromatics, good fruit, long, full finish. 17/20 2025 - 2036

This is the vintage where you start to see the results of the new plots for Carillon (one near Cheval Blanc and another in St Colombe), with supple berry fruits and floral aromatics, along with softly brushed tannins and smoke. This is elegant and well paced, with plenty of espresso and cocoa bean gourmet edging. Bottled in May. 60% new oak. 20ha now dedicated to Carillon d'Angélus (with 5ha going into both Carillon and No 3 d'Angélus). New cellar for the first time, reflecting the fact that since 2014 there have been plots dedicated only to these two wines.

The 2019 Carillon d'Angelus is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it features notes of cedar chest, wild sage, and fertile soil over a core of plum preserves and blackberry compote. The full-bodied palate is highly structured with firm tannins and tightly wound black fruits, delivering great length.

Le Figaro Vin

A perfumed nose with penetrating blue and violet notes of ink, iris and red flowers, possessing the worldly elegance of a courtesan. On the palate, a disconcerting softness—fluid and delicate—a sensuality built on dark fruit, with a very fine mineral length and oak that knows how to stay discreet.

Aged for 18 months in 60% new barrels and 40% once‑used barrels. The bouquet reveals sweet spices and subtle oak nuances. The wine shows class, style, and a sapid character. Its tannins are well-tamed and aligned with the freshness of the zesty acidity. A wine with plenty of character that highlights its ability to spend some time in the cellar. Lovely aromatic expression on the finish. It needs a little time.

Logo on the cork: inverted T (Trescases) Dark, intense, and beautiful color. Very aromatic nose with ripe fruit. Delicate, flavorful palate, showing plenty of taste on the finish where the quality of the aroma sets it apart. Seamless tannins. Very long finish.

Description

The delicacy of a structured Saint-Émilion

The property

The Château Angélus is one of the prestigious Premier Grands Crus Classés A of Saint-Émilion. This mythical property of the appellation was founded in 1782 and, for 8 generations, the de Boüard de Laforest family has been watching over this exceptional heritage. The Carillon d’Angélus is the second wine of Château Angélus.

The vineyard

The vineyard of Château Angélus is located in the heart of Saint-Émilion. It extends over clay-sandy-limestone soils.

The vintage

Flamboyant, the 2019 vintage was a great year for Château Angélus. The beginning of the vine's vegetative cycle was marked by cool and humid weather conditions. This allowed the vines to resist the hot and dry summer.

Blend

Merlot (90%), cabernet franc (10%)
