Description
A harmonious and elegant red Second Vin from Margaux
The estate
An 1855 Fourth Classified Growth, Chateau Prieure-Lichine produces great Margaux wines that express all the typicity of this superb appellation, located on the left bank of the Bordeaux region.
Chateau du Prieure de Cantenac became Chateau Prieure-Lichine when it was bought by the charismatic Alexis Lichine, the "Pope of Wine" in 1951. Following his passing in 1989, his son Sacha took over the running of the estate until 1999, when the estate became part of the Ballande group.
The vineyard
Chateau Prieure-Lichine’s vineyard spreads across 85 hectares of vines. Composed of Garonne gravel, this typical terroir retains the sun's heat during the day and releases it back at night and thus ensures the optimal ripeness of the grapes.
24 hectares are dedicated to the production of Confidences de Prieure-Lichine, the estate’s Second Vin. The vines are 25 years old on average and are planted on gravelly-sandy soils. They give rise to a Margaux wine that reveals the expression and diversity of the appellation's great terroirs.
The wine
Produced with the same precision and care as the estate’s Grand Vin, with the guidance and advice of the famous consultant-oenologist Stephane Derenoncourt, Confidences de Prieure-Lichine 2017 is made from a selection of young vines.
Vinification and aging
The grapes are harvested by hand in crates and are sorted manually and optically. Vinification without crushing. The wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels (40% of which are first-fill barrels and 60% second-fill barrels).
The blend
Merlot (80%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (20%)
