Description
The elegance and delicacy of a Second Wine from the Margaux appellation
The estate
4th Grand Cru Classé in 1855, Château Prieuré-Lichine produces fine Margaux wines that express the singularity of this superb appellation, located on the left bank of the Bordeaux region.
Château du Prieuré de Cantenac became Château Prieuré-Lichine when it was acquired by the charismatic Alexis Lichine, the "Pope of Wine" in 1951. Following his passing in 1989, his son Sacha took over the running of the estate until 1999, when the estate became part of the Ballande group.
The philosophy of Château Prieuré-Lichine revolves around excellence and the production of great wines that reveal the full expression and diversity of the fine Margaux terroirs.
The vineyard
A fine Margaux reference, the vineyard of Château Prieuré-Lichine covers an area of 78 hectares. Composed of Garonne gravel, this typical Margaux terroir enjoys the sun's heat during the day and reflects it at night, thus ensuring optimal ripeness of the grapes.
24 hectares are dedicated to the property's second wine, Confidences de Prieuré-Lichine.
The wine
Following the advice of the famous consultant oenologist Stéphane Derenoncourt, Confidences de Prieuré-Lichine 2016 is made from a selection of young vines, with the same precision and attention to detail as the estate’s Grand Vin.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand and then sorted by optical sorting. The transfer to the vats is carried out without crushing. The wines are aged for 12 months, 40% in second-fill barrels and 60% in third-fill barrels.
The blend
Confidences de Prieuré-Lichine 2016 comprises a blend of Merlot (65%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (35%)
