Description
An aromatic and elegant Second Wine from the Margaux appellation
The estate
An 1855 4th Grand Cru Classe, Chateau Prieure-Lichine, embodies all the typical features of the superb Margaux appellation, located on the left bank of the Bordeaux region.
Chateau du Prieure de Cantenac became Chateau Prieure-Lichine when it was acquired by the charismatic Alexis Lichine, the "Pope of Wine" in 1951. Following his death in 1989, his son Sacha took over the running of the estate until 1999, when the estate became part of the Ballande group.
The philosophy of Chateau Prieure-Lichine revolves around the pursuit of excellence throughout the production of their great wines that reveal the utter expression and diversity of the great Margaux terroirs.
The vineyard
Chateau Prieure-Lichine is a Margaux wine whose vineyard covers an area of 78 hectares. Composed of Garonne gravel, this typical terroir of the appellation captures the heat of the sun during the day and releases it at night, thus enabling the grapes to reach an optimal ripeness level.
24 hectares are dedicated to the estate's second wine, Confidences de Prieure-Lichine.
The wine
Following the advice of the famous consultant oenologist, Stephane Derenoncourt, Confidences de Prieure-Lichine 2015 is made from a selection of young vines, with the same precision and care as the estate’s Grand Vin.
Vinification and aging
The grapes are harvested by hand and then sorted by optical sorting. The transfer to the vats is carried out without crushing.
The wines are aged for 12 months, 40% in second fill barrels and 60% in third fill barrels.
The blend
Confidences de Prieure-Lichine 2015 comprises a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (35%) and Merlot (65%).
