The estate

A Grand Cru Classe of Margaux, Chateau Rauzan-Segla is a prestigious Bordeaux estate with an exciting history. For 350 years, Rauzan-Segla has sought to express a certain precision in their wines as a product of centuries of savoir-faire. A Second Classified Growth of 1855, Chateau Rauzan-Segla is one of the most prestigious references of the Margaux appellation.

The vineyard

The 37-year-old vines of the estate cover 70 hectares. In the heart of the Margaux appellation, the Chateau Rauzan-Segla vineyard is planted in fine, deep clayey gravel typical of the Margaux appellation.

The vintage

A particularly mild winter preceded a spring that was also mild, but marked by significant rainfall. The conditions during summer were hot and dry, followed by a fall with milder temperatures.

Winemaking and aging

Manual, plot-based harvests in crates, followed by a manual sort. Plot-based and intra-plot vinification with gravity-fed vatting in thermoregulated stainless steel vats. Aging for 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new, with medium and medium-long heating. Precise racking through small bungholes. Fining with egg whites in barrels.

Blend

The 2020 Chateau Rauzan-Segla is made of a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (36%), Petit Verdot (3%), Cabernet Franc (1%).

Tasting

Nose

The nose seduces with its aromatic expression, which gently mixes floral fragrances (hundred-petal rose, hawthorn, white flower). At aeration, the nose becomes more complex, with notes of chocolate, praline and coffee.

Palate

The velvety attack precedes a mouth-coating and refined tannic structure. The palate is lively and has a good length. Throughout the tasting, this vintage reveals a wine which charms with its command and generosity.
