Description
The purity and freshness of a great red wine from Margaux
The estate
A Grand Cru Classe of Margaux, Chateau Rauzan-Segla is a prestigious Bordeaux estate with an exciting history. For 350 years, Rauzan-Segla has sought to express a certain precision in their wines as a product of centuries of savoir-faire. A Second Classified Growth of 1855, Chateau Rauzan-Segla is one of the most prestigious references of the Margaux appellation.
The vineyard
A benchmark among fine Margaux wines, Chateau Rauzan-Segla reigns over a 70-hectare vineyard. The vines are 38 years old on average and are planted in the heart of the appellation on fine, deep clayey gravel soils.
The vintage
After experimenting for several years, 2021 marks the first year of conversion towards organic farming. The estate aims to obtain the certificate in 2024. Despite a year marked by a particularly unstable climate, the involvement of the teams and rigorous management of the vineyard have resulted in an increase in yields.
Vinification and aging
Hand-picked grapes in small crates followed by manual sorting. Vinification by plot and intra-plot with gravity-flow vatting in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (60% new oak).
The blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (75%)
Merlot (25%)
Chateau Rauzan-Segla 2021: Characteristics and tasting tips
The tasting
Nose
The nose opens with refreshing fruity (wild strawberries) and floral (rose) fragrances. When aerated, the bouquet enhances its complexity through notes of peony, white sap, pepper, chocolate and raspberry.
Palate
A lively and unctuous attack gives way to a palate that reveals the purity of the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, that make up the majority of the blend. Perfectly balanced, the palate is seduced with this wine’s suave bitterness and great finesse.
