Description
The estate
Margaux Grand Cru Classé, Château Rauzan-Ségla is one of those prestigious Bordeaux wines with an exciting history. For the last 350 years, Rauzan-Ségla has strived for precision by repeating the same methods in a craft that combines art and craftsmanship. Second Cru Classé in 1855, Château Rauzan-Ségla is one of the most prestigious names in the Margaux appellation.
The vineyard
A benchmark among great Margaux wines, Château Rauzan-Ségla oversees a 70-hectare vineyard. The vines are on average 38 years old and are planted in the heart of the appellation on deep, fine clay gravel.
The vintage
The heat arrived in the spring, creating a relatively dry climate. However, the vines and grapes managed to adapt over the course of the season. Rainfall at the end of June prevented water stress and enabled the vines to continue their cycle.
Winemaking and ageing
Vinification by plot and inter-plot, with gravity-fed vatting in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (50% new).
Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (72%)
Merlot (17%)
Petit Verdot (2%)
Tasting
A perfect expression of the rich, powerful character of this vintage, this wine harmoniously blends a lovely fruity structure (Bigarreau cherry) with lively, sappy citrus notes. Full-bodied tannins of great elegance stretch through to a finish with refreshing mineral and chalky notes.
