Description

An aromatic and balanced red wine from Saint-Emilion

The estate

Owned by Silvio Denz, Chateau Peby Faugeres is a Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Emilion located on the right bank of Bordeaux. Thanks to the efforts and investments made by Silvio Denz, Chateau Peby Faugeres has gradually risen to become one of the most beautiful references of the appellation.

The vineyard

The Chateau Peby Faugeres vineyard covers 7.45 hectares of vines in the Saint-Emilion appellation. The vines are planted on a clay-limestone hillside (a vineyard all in one piece) and enjoy a south / southeast orientation. In a constant quest for perfection and with a profound respect for the environment, the vineyard is cultivated with organic viticulture. 2020 is the property's first certified Organic Agriculture vintage.

The vintage

A particularly rainy winter preceded a very mild spring, resulting in significant mildew pressure. Thanks to the dry and warm conditions of mid-May, flowering was uniform and early. From June 19, the precipitation gave way to dry and cool weather until mid-July, which marked the beginning of veraison. Very high temperature peaks were recorded until mid-August, when thunderstorms allowed the grapes to restart the ripening process. The grapes, harvested around ten days ahead of average, had high levels of tannin and color, and were perfectly balanced.

The vinification and aging

30 days vatting. Aging lasts 18 months (100% in new French oak barrels).

The blend

The Château Peby Faugères 2020 is a 100% Merlot.
