Description
An exclusive and limited edition box set highlighting the finesse and aromatic expression of Château Pavie
The estate
The origins of this property date back many years. The vines were cultivated on the slopes of what is now Château Pavie as early as the 4th century. Owned by Chantal and Gérard Perse since March 1998, Château Pavie, 1er Grand Cru Classé "A", has one of the most beautiful terroirs of Saint-Émilion.
Château Pavie is renowned for the structure and elegance of its wines, which are the result of a harvest that is contained within the yields most suited to the terroir: 31hl/ha.
The vineyard
Château Pavie produces Saint-Emilion wines from a 37-hectare single-block vineyard, which makes it one of the largest Premiers Grands Crus Classés of Saint-Émilion.
Situated on the southeast side of the Saint-Emilion hill, the vineyard is spread over three levels going up the hill, with vines aged 33 years on average. The "plateau" (85 metres above sea level) is composed of clay-limestone soil over asteroid limestone and the "mid-slope" (55 metres above sea level) is composed of brown clay-limestone soil with a fine texture. The "pied de côte" is made up of sandy / sandy-clay soils with iron ore between 60 and 80 cm and sandy-gravelly soils.
Particular attention is paid to the vineyard, part of which has been the subject of a replanting plan. This plan has included the enhancement of the vine training system to increase canopy size, pruning adjusted to the specific age of each vine, green harvest and leaf-stripping.
The wine
With this 2017 vintage, Château Pavie is revealing the second edition of its "Aliénor Collection".
Named after Eleanor of Aquitaine, Queen of France and then of England, who married King Louis VII in the Saint André cathedral in Bordeaux and who was the mother of Richard the Lionheart, this box set invites you to (re)discover, once a year and in different formats, a vintage that was first released five years prior.
Since the 2000 vintage, Château Pavie wines have been showcased in a bottle called "Aliénor", whose shoulder, truncated-cone shape and deep punt resonate with old-style bottles while still guaranteeing a promising ageing potential. In order to celebrate the classification as 1er Grand Cru Classé "A" in 2012, Château Pavie also uses the same design for its magnum bottles.
Each numbered box of the "Aliénor Collection" contains 4 formats of this 2017 Château Pavie. Each case is utterly refined and was crafted in the workshop of a local partner, ADAM, which has been awarded the "Entreprise du patrimoine vivant" label.
Bottle, magnum, double magnum, imperial... 4 ways to (re)discover this 2017 vintage within an exceptional box set. With only 100 units available, this collection is utterly rare and prestigious.
