Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Palmer 10 Years On 2014

Tasting

After 10 years of aging in the property's cellars, this 2014 vintage seduces with its vivacity, silky touch, and vibrant fruit.

The freshness and aromatic expression of a great Margaux wine, its character and power magnified by time

The property

The Château Palmer is a true star of the Margaux appellation, on the left bank of the Bordeaux region. With beginnings in biodynamics initiated in 2009, Château Palmer chose to convert the entire vineyard from 2014. After building its legend on vintages that have become mythical, Château Palmer continues to write its history under the direction of the talented Thomas Duroux.

The vineyard

An undeniable reference among the great wines of Margaux, Château Palmer benefits from an exceptional terroir located in the immediate vicinity of the Gironde estuary. This terroir owes its uniqueness to an unusual grape variety in Médoc, giving pride of place to Merlot, which stands alongside Cabernet Sauvignon in equal proportions associated with Petit Verdot.

The wine

"I never drink the Grands Crus Classés that make up the majority of my cellar before they are ten years old. It's a principle." (Émile Peynaud). This quote from the illustrious father of modern oenology provides a major benchmark regarding the most opportune time to taste a Grand Cru from Bordeaux.

Since 2010, half of Château Palmer's production has been carefully preserved in the property's cellars. Over the years, these great wines from the Margaux appellation patiently develop their character and aromatic palette.

With its 10 Years On collection, Château Palmer creates an appointment for all lovers of great Bordeaux wines. Every fourth Thursday of September, the N-10 vintage of the property's Grand Vin will indeed be marketed.

In constant search for innovation, Château Palmer adorns its bottles with a QR code offering an immersive journey into the life cycle of the vintage and the unique universe of Palmer.

The vintage

The winter is marked by significant rainfall ensuring the replenishment of soil water reserves. If the homogeneous flowering suggests a vintage of great quality, the instability recorded from July leads to significant vegetative development at the expense of berry growth. The conditions of August slow down the veraison, before a month of September whose clemency allows to refine the maturities of the grapes before harvests under sunny meteorology.

Vinification and aging

Aging of 22 months is carried out in barrels, 60% of which are new.

Blend

Merlot (45%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (49%)
Petit Verdot (6%).
