Characteristics and Tasting Tips of Château Palmer 10 Years On 2015
Tasting
This vintage seduces as much with its concentrated and fruity Nose as with its Palate, whose silky texture and freshness harmoniously combine with delicate tannins and delicious spicy aromas.
A great Margaux wine combining freshness and concentration
The estate
Château Palmer stands as an emblematic figure of the Margaux appellation on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. Committed to biodynamics since 2009, it completed the full conversion of its vineyard in 2014. After earning its renown through vintages that have become legendary, the estate continues its journey under the inspired leadership of Thomas Duroux.
The vineyard
A benchmark among the great Margaux wines, Château Palmer benefits from an exceptional terroir, very close to the Gironde estuary. Its particularity lies in an uncommon grape composition in the Médoc: Merlot occupies as much space as Cabernet Sauvignon, both complemented by a touch of Petit Verdot.
The wine
"I never drink the Classified Growths that make up the majority of my cellar before they reach ten years of age. It's a principle." – Émile Peynaud.
This maxim from the father of modern oenology sets the ideal benchmark for appreciating a Bordeaux Grand Cru. Since 2010, Château Palmer has reserved half of its production in its own cellars. Over the years, these Margaux crus fully express their personality and aromatic spectrum. With the "10 Years On" collection, the estate establishes an annual appointment for all Bordeaux grand wine enthusiasts: every fourth Thursday in September, the N-10 cuvée of the Grand Vin is launched. Always seeking innovation, Château Palmer incorporates a QR code on its bottles, inviting an immersive journey into the vintage's life cycle and the estate's unique universe.
The vintage
The 2015 vegetative cycle began under rather dry conditions, providing regular growth and ideal flowering. The post-flowering rains favored berry development, then late-June heat accelerated ripening (thickening of skins, concentration of tannins and rapid seed maturation). At the end of July, moderate rains restarted veraison and allowed the grapes to reach normal size. In September, very favorable conditions led to a harvest that began on September 22 with the Merlot, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, concluding on October 7. Despite a high alcohol degree, the dense tannic structure and perfect phenolic maturity guarantee a remarkable balance, placing 2015 among the great recent vintages (2010, 2009, 2005).
