Description
A Margaux Grand Cru Classe with a seductive finesse and complexity
The estate
Since 1616, Chateau Marquis d’Alesme has reigned over an exceptional terroir in Margaux in the heart of the Bordeaux region. Both exotic and classic, Chateau Marquis d'Alesme is a property representing a great culture and passion for winemaking.
The vineyard
Chateau Marquis d'Alesme 2021 is a Margaux wine that stems from a 15-hectare vineyard. The vines are 40 years old on average and the vineyard is managed like a garden and with the utmost care through the craftsmanship of the Chateau Marquis d'Alesme team. The vines are planted on clay-limestone, siliceous gravel and clay soils.
The vintage
Although the 2021 vintage began with extreme conditions and thus, the vineyard required more surveillance by the estate's teams, the particularly mild conditions from the end of summer onwards were ideal and helped the ripening of the grapes. Compared to recent sunny vintages, 2021 benefited from cooler temperatures which gave a lively fruity expression. The freshness, elegance and aromatic structure of the Merlot grapes harmoniously blend with the flavorsome and charming Cabernet grapes and the complex and unctuous Petit Verdot.
Vinification and aging
Harvesting from September 30th to October 14th. Aged in barrels (60% new and 40% second-fill barrels) stemming from large French forests (Belleme, Moselle, Allier, Rambouillet).
The blend
Chateau Marquis d'Alesme 2021 comprises a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (51%), Merlot (40%), Petit Verdot (6%) and Cabernet Franc (3%).
