Description
The generosity and intensity of a fine wine from Saint-Emilion
The estate
Nestled at the heights of the limestone plateau of Saint-Emilion, Chateau Canon enjoys an exceptional location. Located on the right bank of Bordeaux, the superb estate takes its name from the famous sailor and corsair of the King, Jacques Kanon. It was in 1954 that Chateau Canon became a Premier Grand Cru Classe de Saint-Emilion.
The vineyard
The Chateau Canon Premier Grand Cru Classe vineyard covers 24 hectares. The vines are planted in clay-limestone soils.
The vintage
2019 was characterized by a mild winter and a cool spring. The hot, dry summer allowed the fruit to ripen fully. The autumn season was ideal, punctuated by a few rainy days.
The winemaking
Manual harvest in crates. Manual sorting. Plot-by-plot vinification, gravity vatting into thermo-regulated frustoconical stainless steel tanks. Gravity flow. Malolactic fermentation (1/3 new barrels, 2/3 tanks).
The aging
18 months in new French oak barrels with a medium or medium-long toast.
The blend
Merlot (74%), cabernet franc (26%)
The tasting
The notes of red fruits (strawberries and raspberries) come twirling forth from the glass, offering an intensely fruity bouquet. After aeration the wines reveals notes of morello cherry. Intense and juicy, this wine is generous on the palate, a hallmark of the 2019 vintage. Generous and faithful to its terroir, the Chateau Canon 2019 combines great consistency and fluidity.
