An iconic Saint-Émilion wine from an exceptional terroir

The estate

Founded on a heritage dating back to Roman times, the Château Ausone, located in Saint-Émilion, is a jewel among the great wines of Bordeaux. Since the 13th century, only three families have owned this estate, now managed by the eleventh generation of the Vauthier family. Its very name evokes the Roman poet Ausone, who, according to legend, owned a villa on these lands.

The vineyard

The 7.25-hectare vineyard stretches across the limestone slopes of Saint-Émilion, benefiting from ideal exposure and an exceptional terroir composed of crinoidal limestone, particularly rare in the appellation. This rock, formed of marine fossils, imparts to the wines a distinctive minerality and characteristic tension. The vines have an average age of 56 years, contributing to the wine's depth and complexity.

Winemaking and aging

After a meticulous hand-harvest and rigorous sorting, the grapes are vinified parcel by parcel in small wooden vats. The wine is aged in new French oak barrels for 20 months.

Blend

65% Cabernet Franc and 35% Merlot.
