Description
Château Angélus presents a three-great-vintages gift set
The estate
Founded in 1782, the Château Angélus is an iconic Bordeaux estate located in Saint-Émilion. Spanning 32 hectares, it has been run by the de Boüard family for 8 generations. The vineyard, planted mainly with Cabernet Franc and Merlot, benefits from a unique clay-limestone terroir on the south-facing slope of Saint-Émilion. The name “Angélus” comes from the bells of the neighboring churches, symbolizing the estate’s heritage and identity.
The vineyard
Located on the south-facing slope of Saint-Émilion, on the “pied de côte”, the Château Angélus vineyard flourishes on a clay-limestone terroir that is particularly well suited to expressing Bordeaux grape varieties. The vines are 39 years old on average.
The gift set
« Vintages follow one another, and no two are alike. That is the magic of a great terroir in constant motion, enriched by a capricious climate: each of these years writes the story of Angelus. »
True to this philosophy, the estate presents “Les Intemporels”, three gift sets bringing together three bottles of great rarity, now beautifully mature, bearing witness to historic vintages that trace the evolution of this essential Right Bank Bordeaux property.
The gift set named « Les Intemporels III » brings together three recent vintages—1995, 2000 and 2005—considered one of the greatest in the contemporary history of Bordeaux wines.
Tasting notes and serving advice for the Les Intemporels III 1995-2000-2005 Case from Château Angelus
Tasting
1995
Favorable weather conditions and controlled yields allowed the grapes to reach a high level of ripeness, with perfect balance. The wines are deeply colored, almost opaque, and offer aromas of stewed prune, blackberry jelly, spices and cedar. The high proportion of Cabernet Franc (50%) brings mentholated tannins, combining freshness, elegance and complexity. The silky, full-bodied palate stretches into a long, smooth and harmonious finish, promising excellent aging potential.
2000
Merlot (60%), very fruity, luscious and balanced, is blended with Cabernet Franc (40%) at slight over-ripeness. The wines show a deep purplish-black color and a nose of blackberry, plum and blackcurrant, lifted by smoky notes and licorice. The palate is broad and remarkably concentrated, carried by a superb tannic structure; the richness/acidity balance brings great freshness. A vintage built for very long aging.
2005
The result of a blend of 62% Merlot and 38% Cabernet Franc, this vintage comes from a unique year marked by a very significant water deficit, offset by temperatures favorable to ripening. The grapes stand out for their memorable quality, both in terms of health and balance. The vintage offers great harmony, combining power and freshness, with remarkable aromatic precision.
