Description
An exceptional vintage champagne, seductive in its freshness and finesse
The property
Founded in 1776 in Reims, the Louis Roederer Champagne House has remained family-owned and independent. After more than 200 years of existence, the Louis Roederer House is still in the hands of the same family. Today led by Frédéric Rouzaud, who represents the seventh generation of the lineage, the Louis Roederer House embodies the excellence of Champagne wines around the world thanks to cuvées crafted like a work of art.
The vineyard
With nearly 241 hectares of vines, the Louis Roederer House draws its strength from its extraordinary vineyard, composed exclusively of Grands and Premiers Crus in the Marne Valley, the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. A true mosaic of terroirs, the Louis Roederer House's vineyard is divided into 410 plots that reflect the full diversity of the soils of the Champagne region.
The vintage
The year was remarkable, bringing together all the elements of a great Champagne vintage: warm but moderate temperatures and a particularly mild winter. Cool nights and a dry, fresh wind during the months of August and September also played a crucial role. These exceptional conditions allowed for perfect ripeness of the grapes and an intense concentration of aromas. The harvest began on September 12 with the Chardonnays.
The wine
In order to extend the harmonious search for the ideal balance, the Louis Roederer House keeps a limited quantity of exceptional bottles for 20 years in its cellars. Benefiting from exceptional aging, the Cristal Vinothèque cuvées from Louis Roederer develop year after year, in the silence and darkness of the house's cellars, an aromatic complexity and an uncommon maturity.
Vinification and aging
Vinification is carried out in wood for 17%. No malolactic fermentation. The cuvée was aged for 11 years on lees, 5 years on points and benefited from a rest of 5 years after disgorging. The dosage of this 2002 vintage champagne is 8 g/liter.
Blend
Pinot Noir (60%)
Chardonnay (40%)
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Cristal Vinothèque 2002 by the Louis Roederer House
Tasting
Color
The color is a beautiful golden yellow with green reflections.
Nose
Delicate and aromatic, the nose blends fragrances of citron, roasted almonds and citrus zest. Upon aeration, subtle vanilla notes, slightly truffled, are revealed.
Palate
The palate is fresh, dynamic and silky. Its ample and deep texture subtly opens onto a saline finesse, almost iodized. Delicate touches of toasted hazelnuts are then expressed, giving way to a saline and salivating finish.
