Description
The finesse and elegance of Cristal Rosé 2002 by Louis Roederer
The property
Founded in 1776 in Reims, the Louis Roederer Champagne House has remained family-owned and independent. After more than 200 years of existence, the Louis Roederer House is still in the hands of the same family. Today led by Frédéric Rouzaud, who represents the seventh generation of the lineage, the Louis Roederer House embodies the excellence of Champagne wines around the world thanks to cuvées crafted like a work of art.
The vineyard
With nearly 241 hectares of vineyards, the Louis Roederer House draws its strength from its extraordinary vineyard, composed only of Grands and Premiers Crus in the Marne Valley, the Montagne de Reims, and the Côte des Blancs. A true mosaic of terroirs, the vineyard of the Louis Roederer House is divided into 410 plots that reflect all the diversity of the soils of the Champagne.
The wine
Cristal Rosé 2002 is a remarkable cuvée that exemplifies the attributes of an extraordinary vintage, marked by uniformly warm temperatures and a mild winter. The grapes were harvested from September 12 to 29, showcasing an ideal balance between ripeness and concentration.
The vintage
The 2002 vintage enjoyed exceptional climatic conditions, including slightly lower rainfall (about 20% less than average) during the growing season, cool nights, and a dry Northeast wind in August and September. These conditions contributed to perfect grape maturity and a beautiful concentration of flavors.
Vinification and aging
Cristal Rosé 2002 is crafted using Louis Roederer's unique vinification method, with no malolactic fermentation. Approximately 20% of the wines are aged in wood. The cuvée was aged for 11 years on laths and an additional 5 years on points, resting for 4 years after disgorgement to achieve perfect maturity. The dosage is 10g/l.
