La Pilar is a high-altitude Malbec from the heart of Mendoza in Uco Valley, Argentina. The story of Finca La Celia begins in 1890, when viticulture pioneer Don Eugenio Bustos planted the first Malbec from France. At nearly 5,000 feet above sea level, these vines are located on prime sites for growing in the heat of Argentina. A sharp difference in day and night temperatures keeps freshness and acidity in the grapes.
The style of La Pilar is more Old World in its subtle earthiness and restrained fruit. The wine is aged in oak barrels for 12 months, followed by an additional in the bottle. The result is a very expressive and elegant nose of ripe blackberry, plum violet and spice. Structured and round on the palate, flavors of tobacco and boysenberry appear. A delicious counterpart to grilled meats of any kind.
