Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Saint-Aubin Village 2018
Tasting
Color
The glass reveals a magnificent white color with pale yellow hues. The crystalline brilliance and great clarity of this wine highlight all its visual elegance.
Nose
The bouquet proves particularly seductive and rich. It unfurls superb aromas of fresh citrus fruits and green apple, harmoniously complemented by delicate floral touches.
Palate
The attack is both powerful and imbued with great freshness. The palate stands out for its saline structure and chalky minerality, wrapped in a suave texture with buttery nuances. Subtle woody and almond notes round off this tasting of remarkable complexity.
Food and wine pairing
This wine pairs wonderfully with a seafood platter, oysters or simply steamed shellfish. It also enhances white-fleshed fish, roast poultry served with a mushroom sauce, as well as seafood risottos. As for cheese, it goes ideally with hard cheeses such as Comté or Emmental, but also a ripened Brie.
Service and storage
To fully appreciate this 2018 vintage, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 11 and 13°C. With a fine structure, this wine offers interesting aging potential and can be enjoyed until around 2028.
The excellence and purity of a great Burgundy wine by Leroy
The estate
The history of the Leroy family in Burgundy began in 1868 with the founding of the négociant house. However, it was in 1988 that the iconic Lalou Bize-Leroy, a leading figure and current owner, created the eponymous estate. Spanning approximately 23 hectares of prestigious terroirs, the estate immediately distinguished itself through its radical, pioneering approach to biodynamics. Refusing any compromise, the estate practices extremely low yields to guarantee unrivaled concentration and purity, elevating its cuvées among the most sought-after in the world.
The vineyard
The terroir of Saint-Aubin is located in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune, at altitudes ranging from 300 to 350 meters. The vines benefit from excellent east and southeast exposure, favoring optimal ripening of the berries. The soils, composed of white clays and a high proportion of limestone, provide an ideal environment for white grape varieties to flourish, giving them remarkable minerality and structure. The vineyard is cultivated according to strict biodynamic principles, without any synthetic chemical products.
The vintage
2018 was marked by exceptionally warm and sunny weather. These very favorable climatic conditions allowed the berries to reach perfect ripeness. Thanks to generous yields on the best terroirs, the grapes retained an excellent level of acidity, ensuring juices of great freshness and beautiful aromatic precision.
Winemaking and aging
The winemaking follows a philosophy of minimal intervention and absolute respect for the fruit. Fermentations are triggered exclusively by indigenous yeasts to faithfully reflect the identity of the terroir. The wine then undergoes careful aging in French oak barrels, giving it a subtle woody patina while preserving its natural tension.
Grape variety
Chardonnay (100%).
