Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for Le Mont Moelleux 2022 Domaine Huet
Tasting
Color
The color of this white wine from France reveals a pale to golden yellow hue, enhanced by a lovely brilliance and delicate coppery glints.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet gradually unfolds with notes of candied fruit, apricot, and roasted pear. It is enriched with touches of honey, beeswax, and citrus such as lime and grapefruit, complemented by subtle nuances of spice, white flowers, and a mineral undertone.
Palate
The attack is generous and velvety, offering a well-integrated sweetness. The natural acidity of the Chenin Blanc brings a lovely sapid tension and a dynamic vibrancy. The long, lingering finish stands out for its chalky mineral signature, notes of honey, and a hint of very elegant bitterness.
Food and wine pairing
This wine pairs beautifully with foie gras, blue cheeses such as Roquefort, or spicy Asian dishes. It also matches wonderfully with fish in buttery sauces as well as lightly sweetened fruit desserts.
Service and storage
To fully appreciate Le Mont Moelleux 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 50 and 54°F, after decanting for around thirty minutes. This wine, crafted to age gracefully, can be enjoyed now or cellared until around 2047.
Other characteristics
This sweet white wine has an alcohol content of 12.5%. Its fermentation was deliberately stopped to retain a lovely proportion of residual sugars while maintaining refreshing acidity.
The mineral elegance of a Vouvray wine by Domaine Huet
The estate
Founded in 1928 by Victor and Gaston Huet, Domaine Huet is a true institution of the Loire Valley. Located on renowned terroirs, the estate quickly distinguished itself through its nature-respectful approach, becoming one of the pioneers of biodynamics with certification obtained as early as 1993. Today, the estate is led by the Hwang family, with Sarah and Hugo Hwang at the helm, alongside winemaker Benjamin Joliveau. They rigorously carry on the family legacy across a vineyard of around thirty hectares, producing wines of great precision.
The vineyard
Acquired in 1957, the Mont plot covers around eight hectares within the Vouvray appellation. Located on the first slope and enjoying optimal south-facing exposure, this terroir is characterized by deep green clay soils mixed with layers of flint and silica. Soil work and harvesting are carried out entirely by hand, in strict respect of the natural cycles.
The vintage
2022 benefited from very favorable weather conditions. This mild climate allowed the harvest to be spread over seven weeks, giving the berries optimal physiological ripeness and a lovely concentration of sugar.
Winemaking and aging
The winemaking of Le Mont Moelleux 2022 begins with gentle pressing followed by a twenty-four-hour settling period. Fermentation is triggered by indigenous yeasts, with no malolactic fermentation in order to preserve the freshness of the juice. Aging takes place over six months, split equally between tanks and old barrels.
