Vinum

Radiant ruby, mineral-driven on the nose, cool expression, cassis and a hint of bell pepper; straight-lined on the palate, medium density, well balanced, fine, unobtrusive tannins, delicate fruit core, long finish. Will be enjoyable relatively early, yet can still age.

Decanter

Fragranced blue fruit with perfumed aromas on the nose. A touch of cinnamon, vanilla and cream. Supple and charming from the first sip, this has energy and focus as well as tannic density. It has some touches of savoury spice, cedar and clove adding complexity. It feels well worked, and although it’s missing a touch more sweetness and density, it feels nicely classic and will be easy to enjoy. Good work.

Leve Jeff

Blackberries, black currants, tobacco, and cedar notes pop in the nose. Chewy, vibrant, fresh, minty, and with sapidity to the currants on the palate, as well as in the finish, with a touch of chalk that comes in at the end of the finish. Drink from 2029-2044. 90-92 Pts

Le Figaro Vin

The nose strikes a balance between warm tones and fruitier aromas reminiscent of stewed raspberry, ripe strawberry, and black cherry. Fresher on the palate, it is framed by a tangy, mouthwatering acidity, like a basket of just-picked cherries. Powdery tannins lead into a tender, suave finish.

Description

A Haut-Médoc wine combining richness and elegance

The property

Overlooking the Gironde estuary for nearly three centuries, the Château Sociando-Mallet is among the most emblematic estates of the Haut-Médoc. Formerly owned by Sieur Sociando in the 17th century, the estate took its current name in the 19th century with the arrival of the Mallet family. Since 1969, the Gautreau family has infused it with passion and dynamism, perpetuating the aura of this great name on the left bank of Bordeaux.

The vineyard

The vineyard of Château Sociando-Mallet extends over 77 hectares in production in the Haut-Médoc. The vines, averaging 35 years old, are planted on a gravel and clay terroir resting on a clay-limestone subsoil. This geological combination gives the wines their distinctive character and aging potential.

Vinification and aging

Hand harvesting in crates with a double sorting, before and after destemming. Traditional vinification, with pumping over and racking, took place in thermoregulated cement and stainless steel vats. After a maceration of 25 days, the malolactic fermentation was carried out in vats. The aging continued for 12 months, 68% of which was in new barrels.

Blend

The Château Sociando-Mallet 2024 is a blend of merlot (57%), and cabernet sauvignon (43%).
