Description

A sophisticated and balanced Haut-Médoc red wine by Sociando-Mallet

The producer

Overlooking the Gironde estuary for nearly three centuries, Château Sociando-Mallet is one of the most respected estates in the Haut-Médoc appellation. Owned by Sieur Sociando in the 17th century, the Mallet family purchase the estate in the 19th century, thus adding their name. Since 1969, the Gautreau family has been injecting both passion and energy into this iconic estate, located on the left bank of Bordeaux.

The vineyard

At the top of the Baleyron hill, near Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, the 77 hectares of vineyards are planted on a terroir which comprises gravel and clay, resting on a clay-limestone subsoil. The vines are on average 30 years old and are managed in a traditional manner. Château Sociando-Mallet’s grape varieties are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

The tasting

Château Sociando-Mallet 2014 is seducing due to its power and its beautiful intensity of fruit. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, expressing themselves beautifully in this vintage, provide structure and concentration as well as freshness from a frank acidity. The tannic structure of this Haut-Médoc wine brilliantly combines power and finesse and offers a truly promising future.
