Description
A Very Special Rhone Blend from the Reynaud Estate
Established in the heart of the southern Rhone Valley, the Reynaud family has been producing wine since 1880. The founder of Chateau Rayas, the legendary Jacques Reynaud, is still considered by many the godfather of Chateauneuf du Pape. When he passed away suddenly in 1997, his nephew Emmanuel Reynaud took over, having already gathered experience making wine in his father's Chateau de Tours winery. The family property is now managed by Emmanuel, and includes the domains of Chateau Rayas, Chateau Fonsalette and Chateau des Tours, whose vineyards appear in multiple appellations, namely Chateauneuf du Pape, Cotes du Rhone, Vacqueyras and Cotes du Rhone Village. The Chateau de Fonsalette has been in the Reynaud family, since its purchase in 1945 by Louis Reynaud, Emmanuel's grandfather. The Chateau de Fonsalette 2017 red wine is produced from a blend of Grenache (50%), Cinsault (35%) and Syrah (15%) from the 300-acre Chateau de Fonsalette estate, out of which 30 is planted with vines in very poor sandy soils. This vineyard, in the AOC Cotes du Rhone, is managed by organic viticultural principles. The fruit is harvested by hand and vinified at Chateau Rayas with no yeast added. They are matured in previously used oak barrels.
