Description
The structure and richness of a Margaux red wine
The property
4th Grand Cru Classé in 1855, the Château Prieuré-Lichine, showcases all the typicity of the superb Margaux appellation, located on the left bank of the Bordeaux region.
The Château du Prieuré de Cantenac becomes the Château Prieuré-Lichine following its purchase by the charismatic Alexis Lichine, the "Pope of wine" in 1951. Upon his death in 1989, his son Sacha takes over the reins of the estate until 1999, when the property enters the fold of the Ballande group.
The philosophy of Château Prieuré-Lichine is oriented towards excellence in the creation of great wines revealing all the expression and diversity of the great terroirs of the Margaux appellation.
The vineyard
Château Prieuré-Lichine is a Margaux wine from a vineyard planted on typical Garonne gravels of the appellation.
The vintage
A particularly dry and warm start to the year promotes a rapid vegetative cycle. The flowering is homogeneous. The high temperatures of June 26 and 27, impacting the vineyard, are offset by cool and stormy conditions, leading to high disease pressure. The harvest is early. Despite these unstable conditions, the potential of the Prieuré-Lichine terroir once again made the difference for this atypical and difficult to manage vintage.
Vinification and aging
The grapes undergo optical sorting in order to preserve the berries of the best quality.
Blend
Cabernet sauvignon and merlot.
Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Prieuré-Lichine 2011
Tasting
The surprisingly concentrated color gives way to a palate where the merlots bring volume, flesh and creaminess in the mid-palate. A wine with a certain charm, accessible and that will allow to wait for the 2009 as well as the 2010.
