Description
A vibrant Premier Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Émilion with delightful complexity
The property
The Château Pavie Macquin, established in the 19th century by Albert Macquin, a grafting pioneer, is a crucial estate of Saint-Émilion. Today led by Macquin's descendants, and managed by Nicolas Thienpont and his son Cyrille, the estate is recognized for its exceptional terroir and its commitment to natural, sustainable, and precise winemaking.
The vineyard
The vineyard of Château Pavie Macquin spans over 15 hectares (including 13.5 hectares in production) on the prestigious limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion. It benefits from a clay-limestone terroir on asteriated limestone, a geological signature of the appellation. The average age of the vines is 35 years, contributing to the concentration and complexity of the wines. The estate combines traditional methods and natural grassing to preserve biodiversity.
Vinification and aging
Gravitational vatting of whole berries, thus preserving the integrity of the fruit. Parcel vinification in concrete vats. The aging, lasting 16 to 20 months, is carried out in barrels (50% new, 50% of one wine) on fine lees according to a reductive method. The first racking takes place after 6 to 10 months, followed by a second one year later.
Blend
The blend of Château Pavie Macquin 2024 is composed of 84% merlot, 15% cabernet franc and 1% cabernet sauvignon.
