Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Pavie Macquin 2023
Tasting
This vintage captivates with its persistence as well as its delicate and velvety texture.
A smooth and beautifully complex Premier Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Émilion
The estate
The Château Pavie Macquin was founded in the 19th century by Albert Macquin, the man who introduced grafted plants in France to save the country's vineyards from destruction caused by phylloxera. Today, the château is still owned by the descendants of Albert Macquin. This Premier Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Émilion is an essential reference of the appellation and ranks among the greatest crus in the world.
The vineyard
A reference among the great wines of Saint-Émilion, Château Pavie Macquin oversees a vineyard of 14.5 hectares, of which 13 hectares are in production. The vines, averaging 35 years old, are planted on a clay-limestone terroir within the limestone rock plateau of the appellation.
Vinification and ageing
Gravity-fed whole berries then parcel vinifications in concrete vats. Ageing on fine lees for 16 to 20 months in barrels (50% new and 50% one wine) with a first racking after 6 to 10 months of ageing, then a second one year later, before bottling.
Blend
Merlot (82%)
Cabernet Franc (17%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (1%)
