Description
A vibrant and well-balanced Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
The estate
Located at the southern entrance of the village of Saint-Émilion, Château Moulin Saint-Georges occupies an exceptional position, facing the renowned Château Ausone and neighboring Château La Clotte. Since its acquisition in 1921, this discreet cru has been lovingly tended by the Vauthier family, now in its fifth generation. The historic Fongaban stream, witness to centuries past, flows nearby, a reminder of humankind's fleeting presence and its transient role in shaping this vineyard's excellence. In days gone by, a mill belonging to the seigneury of Saint-Georges once stood where the estate's winery and cellar now stand.
The vineyard
Spread across 7 hectares at the foot of Saint-Émilion, the vineyard of Château Moulin Saint-Georges is nestled on a west-facing limestone hillside. With predominantly clay-limestone soil, this vineyard benefits from exceptional natural drainage thanks to the Fongaban stream. The vines, with an average age of 31 years, lend the wine unrivaled concentration and complexity.
Winemaking and aging
Hand-harvested grapes with plot-by-plot sorting. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve pure aromatic expression. Aged for 18 months in new oak barrels, lending fine tannic structure, delicate woody notes, and a rare aromatic complexity.
Blend
This Château Moulin Saint-Georges 2017 is a blend of Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%).
