Description
A bold white from Bordeaux
Chateau Magrez Fombrauge produces a white wine in Bordeaux. This vintage is a rare white produced in the Saint-Emilion appellation. The vineyard is planted on clay and limestone. 2016 is a blend of 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Semillon and 20% Sauvignon Gris.
2016 had a rather mild and humid winter. Budding started in early April and slowed down due to frost later in the month. Around May 25th the flowering began. The hot weather started in early July and did not change until September 12th. Harvest began on September 24th and ended the 23rd, with a high yield and aromatic juices.
With its splendid pale yellow color, Chateau Magrez Fombrauge 2016 exudes tropical fruit aromas. The wine combines a beautiful freshness with a magnificent acidity. In the mouth, it has a long finish and pleasant fattiness.
Wine Advocate-Parker :
The Magrez-Fombrauge 2016 Blanc is a blend of 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Sauvignon Gris and 20% Sémillon. Now this has a slightly reduced nose that actually works well, that struck match note complementing the light tropical fruit. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry with a fine line of acidity, quite minerally and tensile with a bright, vivid, orange zest and lime finish. I much prefer this to its red counterpart to be quite honest and it will drink well for a decade or more.
