The estate
Founded in 1882 by Georges Gurchy, Château Laroze carries on a 400-year family winemaking tradition in Saint-Émilion. Now run by Guy Meslin since 1990, a direct descendant of the founders, this Grand Cru Classé since 1955 spans 27 hectares at the foot of the northwestern slope of Bordeaux. The vineyard benefits from a unique terroir combining siliceous and clay soils. The estate stands out for its environmentally friendly practices, working without herbicides or chemical fertilizers.
The vineyard
The vineyard of Château Laroze spans 27 hectares at the foot of the northwestern slope, 1.5 kilometers from the village of Saint-Émilion. The silica soils rest on a layer of clay, offering an exceptional terroir for the expression of Bordeaux grape varieties in this prestigious Saint-Émilion appellation.
The vintage
The 2012 vintage in Bordeaux was marked by particular weather conditions, with a cool, wet spring followed by a hot, dry summer. These conditions allowed for a slow, gradual ripening of the grapes, favoring the development of the spiced aromas characteristic of this Château Laroze.
Winemaking and aging
Château Laroze 2012 is vinified in stainless steel and concrete vats. Aging takes place in barrels for 16 months, with 65% new oak, allowing the wine to develop its aromatic complexity.
Grape varieties
The blend of Château Laroze 2012 consists of 66% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon.
