Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Château du Tertre 2024

Tasting

Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals a beautiful complexity, oscillating between notes of fully ripe black fruits and subtle smoky and cocoa hints.

The palate is frank and dense, sustained by a remarkable length and tension. One appreciates the purity of the fruit and the freshness, underscored by licorice notes. The tannic structure stands out for its softness and elegance, each grape variety contributing to the wine’s overall harmony.

A Margaux Grand Cru Classé Combining Softness and Creaminess

The Estate
Founded in the 18th century by Pierre Mitchell, inventor of the Bordeaux bottle, the Château du Tertre was classified as a Fifth Growth in 1855. Since Eric Albada Jelgersma acquired the estate at the end of 1997, significant investments have been made to reveal the full richness of this exceptional terroir, renowned for its remarkable homogeneity. Since January 2021, its management has been entrusted to the Helfrich family, heading the negociant house Les Grands Chais de France.

The Vineyard
Covering 52 hectares, 43 of which are in production, the vineyard of Château du Tertre benefits from an exceptional terroir made up of Garonne gravel and glacial sand. This mosaic of soils typical of Margaux imparts the wines with their distinctive character. A vineyard restructuring plan is currently underway, with completion expected by 2035.

Winemaking and Aging
Winemaking is carried out in wooden, concrete, and stainless steel vats. Extraction is performed gently, with traditional pump-overs and a maceration of around twenty days. Aging continues in Bordeaux barrels for approximately 16 months, with 60% new oak and 40% once-used oak.

Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (75%), Merlot (13%), Cabernet Franc (10%) and Petit Verdot (2%).
