Description
The property
This vineyard called "Hostein" in the 18th century was already at that time one of the most beautiful labels of the Medoc. At the head of Chateau Brane-Cantenac since 1992, Henri Lurton passionately perpetuates the wine adventure began by his ancestors, by combining tradition with the modernity through infrastructures designed to magnify the identity of the wines from this exceptional terroir of the Margaux appellation.
The vineyard
The Chateau de Brane-Cantenac vineyard derives its uniqueness from the terroir of the Brane plateau which contributes to the elegant and aromatic signature of the property's wines. The Grand Vin is made from plots of old vines located on the 4th terrace with the most clayey gravel soils, on a historic terroir with an area of approximately 45 hectares.
The vintage
2020 was marked by a warm winter followed by a hot spring, favoring early development of the vines but punctuated by significant mildew pressure. The particularly hot and dry summer conditions, including 53 days without rain, lead to a high concentration in the fruit and a reduction in yields due to very heterogeneous flowering. The strong heat of September was counterbalanced by cool nights. The sanitary condition of the vineyard was ideal when the harvest began.
Vinification and aging
The vinification of all the batches was carried out using a R’Pulse system, allowing in particular for the elimination of pumping, a better immersion of the marc and an optimization of the concentration and roundness of the wine. Use of 13% high quality press juice. Aging in barrels is complemented by aging in amphorae.
The blend
The Chateau Brane-Cantenac 2020 is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (70%), Merlot (26%), Cabernet Franc (2%), Carmenere (1%) and Petit Verdot (1%).
The tasting
The Chateau Brane-Cantenac 2020 seduces with its supple tannins, its aromatic richness and its beautiful freshness.
