Description
A fine vintage champagne combining freshness and a lovely complexity
The estate
The Moët & Chandon Champagne House was founded in 1743 by Claude Moët, a visionary wine merchant, who quickly made it a name among the European courts. A few years later, his grandson, Jean-Rémy Moët, developed the house's international reputation.
Jean-Rémy Moët created the house's emblematic cuvée, Moët Imperial, in honour of the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, who visited the estate several times and is said to have invented with his troops the gesture of sabering bottles of Moët & Chandon champagne to celebrate a victory.
Owned by the LVMH group since 1987, the house produces unique vintages from a meticulous selection of Champagne terroirs that are renowned worldwide for their quality and appealing character.
The wine
Each year, the Grand Vintage is a free and personal interpretation of the vintage by Moët & Chandon's Cellar Master. This 2015 cuvée is the 76th vintage made only in the great years in Champagne. This exceptional cuvée benefits from an ageing period of 6 years in the cellars as well as a minimum ageing period of 6 months after disgorgement. This Extra Brut champagne is dosed at 5g/litre.
Blend
Pinot Noir (44%)
Chardonnay (32%)
Pinot Meunier (24%).
Characteristics and tasting tips for Grand Vintage 2015 by Moët & Chandon
Tasting
Colour
The colour is of a beautiful golden hue. The effervescence is fine and lasting.
Nose
The nose opens on delicious bakery scents (soft bread, fresh brioche, almond paste). During aeration the bouquet releases floral (elderflower, jasmine) and fruity (white peach, watermelon) fragrances.
Palate
Full and supple, the palate has floral, aniseed and menthol scents which add to the champagne’s freshness and light touch throughout the tasting. The finish is lasting, delightful with its smooth bitterness recalling scents of fresh almonds.
