Description
Tasting Characteristics and Notes for the Frerejean Frères Rosé Premier Cru NM
Tasting Notes
Color
A radiant salmon-pink hue with coppery highlights, the Frerejean Frères Rosé Premier Cru NM captivates with its fine, silky bubbles that gently animate the glass.
Nose
The nose opens on intense aromas of red fruit, led by cherry and strawberry, subtly wrapped in notes of citrus zest, ripe fruit, and mandarin that bring freshness and complexity.
Palate
On the palate, the wine reveals itself as harmonious and silky, carried by subtle saline notes. A beautiful richness of red fruit, cherry, and strawberry unfolds before giving way to a toasted, persistent finish.
Food and Wine Pairings
This rosé Champagne pairs beautifully with a soft-boiled egg prepared with chorizo, langoustines roasted with garlic and parsley, as well as aged cheeses. For dessert, it also pairs wonderfully with a Black Forest cake.
Champagne Frerejean Frères Rosé Premier Cru: The Generosity of Pinot Noir Enhanced by the Finesse of Chardonnay
The Estate
Founded in 2005 in Avize, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, the house of Frerejean Frères is today led by Guillaume and Rodolphe Frerejean-Taittinger, respectively president and managing director of the brand. Born from a dual heritage, the Taittinger Champagne lineage and a tradition of forge masters, this independent house cultivates approximately 14 hectares of vines classified as grand cru and premier cru in Champagne. Renowned for its gastronomic Champagnes, aged extensively on lees, the house has established itself as the official supplier to the Michelin Guide and a partner of Les Grandes Tables du Monde.
The Vineyard
The Chardonnay grapes for this cuvée come from the grand crus of Cramant and Chouilly, in the Côte des Blancs, known for their chalky soils that lend tension and minerality to the wines. The Pinot Noir grapes, meanwhile, come from the premier cru of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, in the Marne Valley.
The Blend
This non-vintage Champagne combines a base wine put into cellar in June 2018 with reserve wines, representing 20 to 30% of the final blend, to bring depth, consistency, and complexity to the house style.
Winemaking and Aging
For the production of the Rosé Premier Cru NM, 12% of the Pinot Noir is vinified as red wine and aged in oak barrels for one year, adding structure and complexity to the blend. Malolactic fermentation is carried out, and the wine benefits from more than 6 years of aging on lees, for a total aging period of 6 to 7 years before release.
Grape Varieties
This cuvée is crafted from a blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir.
