Description
A pure and complex Argentinian white wine by Catena Zapata
The estate
In 1902, Nicola Catena founded the Bodega Catena Zapata and planted his first plot of Malbec vines in the exceptional vineyards of Mendoza in Argentina.
This family-owned estate, constantly seeking excellence, experienced a new boom when it was taken over in the 1960s by Nicolas Catena Zapata. Wishing to revolutionize the production methods of Argentinian wines, Nicolas Catena Zapata was inspired by the vinification of Napa Valley wines and revealed new high-altitude terroirs in order to enhance the expression of the grape varieties.
Nicknamed "The Grand Cru of South America", Bodega Catena Zapata is an international reference recognised by critics for the finesse and elegance of its wines.
The vineyard
This 2019 Catena Alta Chardonnay by Bodega Catena Zapata is made with grapes that stem from two vineyards. The Adrianna terroir is unique due to its alluvial and gravelly soil composed of limestone deposits. The neighboring vineyard (Domingo), which accounts for 20% of the blend, is known for its gravelly soil, composed of alluvium and silt with limestone deposits.
Vinification and aging
Whole bunch pressing precedes low temperature fermentation with natural yeasts in 500-liter French oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation up to 70%. The wine is aged for 14 months in first, second and third-fill French oak barrels.
The blend
This 2019 "Catena Alta" by Bodega Catena Zapata is a 100% Chardonnay.
The tasting
This fine Argentinian white wine seduces with its aromatic purity as well as its beautiful minerality
