Characteristics and Tasting Notes for L'Ermita 2022 by Alvaro Palacios
Tasting Notes
Boasting an exceptionally rich nose, this wine unfolds a fascinating complexity on the palate. Cherry flavors blend subtly with mineral notes, wild herbs, and hints of black fruit.
A great Priorat wine revealing the full beauty of its exceptional terroir
The Estate
It was in the Priorat region of Catalonia that the name Álvaro Palacios truly made its mark. Behind the revival of this once-forgotten vineyard, he turned his wine "Finca Dofi" into a true symbol of Priorat around the world. An emblem of Spanish winemaking, Bodega Alvaro Palacios crafts immense wines imbued with depth, finesse, and complexity.
The Wine
Named after the ancient monastery once located on the vineyard, "L'Ermita" embodies the very essence of Priorat's terroir. Renowned worldwide and produced in extremely limited quantities, this cuvée comes from very old vines, some over a hundred years old. This small vineyard spans 4.7 hectares near the village of Gratallops in the Catalan region in northern Spain. Planted on terraces along a steeply sloped hillside, the vines benefit from excellent northeast exposure.
The Vineyard
With extremely low yields and a vineyard made up of very old vines, Alvaro Palacios pays tribute to the singularity of an exceptional terroir: licorella. These soils, characterized by their crumbly black slate, form the foundation upon which Alvaro Palacios crafts wines of remarkable greatness, embodying the very essence of Priorat.
